How to use the pitch detector

01

Get ready

Use a quiet room. Keep your phone or microphone nearby and avoid playing music through speakers.

02

Listen, then match

Play a reference tone, stop it, and sing a comfortable “ah”. Hold the note gently for a few seconds.

03

Read the display

The large note is the closest musical note. Cents show how far above or below that note you are; 100 cents is one semitone.

Pitch detector questions

Does this record or upload my voice?

No. The microphone is processed locally. This tool does not record, upload or save your audio or pitch history.

Why does the note jump or disappear?

Noise, breathy sounds, vocal fry and more than one sound can confuse pitch detection. Try a clear, sustained note. Silence and low-confidence sounds are left blank.

Does “near the note” mean I sang a song correctly?

It only compares your sound with the nearest equal-tempered note, using A4 = 440 Hz. It does not know the intended melody, rhythm or expression.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes, in supported browsers with microphone permission. Your device’s microphone and room noise affect the estimate.
